Yes, it would certainly be easier to implement since the Registry api is more consistent and logical than filesystem api and it's fewer functions.
Still, problems like AV and incompatibilities and the fact that it requires explanation ("why do I have to start the game from Vortex to get mods?") remain, independent of the complexity. Still, this is something to look into later. :)

You could turn that question on its head and pose it as, "why do I have to start the game from Vortex to play vanilla?" ;)

The beauty of it is that you wouldn't have to, as the original install would live exactly where the game launcher expects it to.

It's only when you want the benefit of a modded setup that launching from within Vortex becomes necessary in the scenario I outline. :smile:

Besides, if this were to be implemented, there's absolutely no reason you couldn't set up different shortcuts with the requisite startup options, such as:

"d:\vortex\vortex.exe --game=fo4 --profile=hardcore"

This is no different to Origin launching when I click the ME:A shortcut on my desktop.

(I'll say it quietly so as not to offend people who think I'm harping, when I'm not, ...like MO does.)

I'm holding further judgement on Vortex until we see something to play with. I like your ideas though, practically I could see something like that making my life (one pc - shared by three users - any of who may at any time want to play a game modded or vanilla without upsetting the configuration for one of the other two). When Vortex is available it'll be my challenge to see if I can bend it to my will :D

Definitely looking forward to this.

MO was a huge revolution for Skyrim, unfortunately it doesn't work properly under Win10 (programs like Bodyslide not using the Overwrite folder for some reason) and MO2 seems too unfinished for stable use in FO4 / SSE.

So right now i'm back to using NMM in FO4, and besides the mod un/installation being painfully slow compared to MO - there still are the mentioned problems with uninstalled files either not being deleted at all, or not being restored properly when uninstalling an overwriting mod.

Ok, so something I REALLY want to know, will vortex have an import from MO2/NMM option because otherwise I'm pretty much screwed.

P.S. Thanks for all the work you Nexus guys for all the work you put in for us greedy players.

@Tannin42:

Just a quick note that I just now invested in a Nexus lifetime premium membership as I'm impressed with the way you are conducting yourself here and wish to support your work and Nexus as a whole.

I don't expect Vortex to be perfect from the get go, but I *do* expect that you and the rest of the Nexus team will continue to do your best to make Vortex -- and by extension the Nexus experience -- the best it can be once you release it.

FWIW, this is also my way of sending a thanks your way for the mods MO have enabled me to use in Oldrim. Nexusmods has made a BIG difference in my gaming experience over the years.

Cheers! :thumbsup:
