We have a name! And a Q&A session with Tannin regarding the new mod manager.

Not angry, just disappointed that people don't read what's already been posted. Instead we see, "It's been a year and you haven't told us when we can have our new (free) toy..."

Pretty sure some of the cost of paying Tannin's wage to developed said software is coming from the Nexus's operational budget, which is in part made up of membership fees of premium members. It's not unreasonable for them to request status updates of the deliverables, as they are your stakeholders.

no... that is not how that works.

If you become a "Premium Member" or a "Supporter" you are a voluntary (monetary) contributor to a community that provides, among other things, a FREE service to all who want it.

And some contribute in other ways (mod authors!) No payment is required or expected, but it is definitely appreciated.

I understand that people are eager to see/use whatever the Vortex will be. I know I am. But Dark0ne has repeatedly said "It'll be ready when it's ready." I really don't think he's forgotten about it, or that he will fail to let us know when there's something to announce.

(Full disclosure: I became a "Premium Member" just a few months after discovering the Nexus in 2009, and contributed again to be "Lifetime" even after joining the Staff. It's not a subscription, it's a donation!)

And yet the first post does give an estimated public alpha release date, which by my reckoning would be between 10th July and 24th of September...

To which I reply (in fact, already did):

I don't think that another, "Are we there yet?" from the back seat is going to somehow get the dev team or the Dark0ne to respond before they're ready when they have so far deliberately avoided doing so ever since that first, (ill advised?) estimate by the second newest member of the team.

===============================

EDIT: Forgot that there is (or will soon be) an even newer member:

Update: Thank you to all the applicants and submissions, please note that this position is now filled.

We're looking for a UI Designer/front end developer to join our team at our office in Exeter, UK. The ideal candidate will be multi skilled with experience working with HTML/CSS/JS for both websites and desktop applications.

Your primary short term role will be to help design and shape our new desktop application "Vortex" which is replacing the Nexus Mod Manager... [emphasis added]

I think it's safe to say that since the vacancy announcement for the UI developer wasn't posted until early August, (and I don't remember when it closed, but it was at least several weeks later) then whoever is (or will soon be) in that role can't have had time to do very much at all.

I don't know about you, but I know I want the UI to be... amazing!

So let's give the team all the time they need.

Seriously, the entitlement in some of these posts is ridiculous. Nexus Mods doesn't have a deadline on Vortex, nor should they. Providing an estimate is just that, an estimate, a guess at when they thought it could have been ready for Alpha. If anyone is upset about that date slip, they've clearly never done software development or any kind of project work; dates slip all the time. This is for FREE software, and I say this as a Lifetime Premium Member. Hell most of the Kickstarters that I've backed have slipped dates by a good margin.

Let's just be a bit patient here. I know Tannin and the team is going to do a great job on Vortex. Like anything, it is just going to take time.

Im really looking forward to Vortex. NMM...got some flaws.

I had a dream
when I woke from sleep
an image clear my mind did keep
a crimson stone with golden glow
wherein was all I sought to know
Nine wizards tall did make the stone
and now they gave it breath and bone

In time the stone began to rise
a sound of wind, and power, and sighs
The Nexus Vortex, golden red
That ancient tool of power was bred.

Hey peeps.

Just came across this threat after I saw a GamerPoets vid about the subject. Also, been reading the comments here, and from what I can ee people don't like when this question surfaces, but...

Any news regarding Vortex?

Also, will this be compatible with the Creators edition of Windows? I ask this because it just ruined MO, but since I use my PC for work related stuff, and that Update actually comes in handy, I am specially hyped about this.
