VulpineWolf
You keep installing anything under Program Files - bad things will continue to happen. That is a Windows system controlled directory.Watch one of the Vortex installation tutorials and maybe read a bit.Vortex has warnings in a lot of places to not do what you did.If I keep installing programs in Program Files, the default place most programs want you to install them, bad things will happen? Can we stop with the off-topic talk now?
rmm200
Programs, installed by an installer, go in Program Files. Other things like mods and downloads do not.Putting Mods under Program Files caused your problem. That seems relevant.

That seems relevant.Except that's not true in the slightest. What caused my problem was Vortex changing it's install directory for an update, THAT WAS THE CAUSE. HadToRegister
"The last update changed the install directory and deleted my mods folder" - that is - worrying...Game update? Vortex update? Neither one deletes mod folders or changes install folder.Maybe you best identify the game and tell us what path you set for your game install folder, mod path, and download path.Something is wrong. It was a vortex update, and yes it did.I used to have vortex installed in 'Program Files/Nexus Vortex/Application', with mod files in 'Program Files/Nexus Vortex/Mods/<game name>'. The update changed Vortex's install directory to 'Program Files/Nexus Vortex', wiped all the other files there, then installed the updated version.I've now moved my mods folder to 'Program Files/Nexus Mods/<game name>' to prevent that retardation happening again. WHICH GAME? NO GAME, IT WAS A VORTEX UPDATE! We done using caps-lock? From your OP, I am wondering which Game you are trying to set.But with your attitude and insulting the people trying to help you, you're not going to get very far. Ah, I misunderstood your comment. It's currently set to Fallout 4, and I just wanna set it to anything else. Also: what insults have I said? You've been insulting rmm200 for trying to help you by telling to stop posting off-topic stuff, along with your comments about CAPS, along with telling the guy who's trying to help you that any further "off-topic comments will be promptly ignored" Anyway, I'm done here, you finally answered my question I asked in Post #2 on the first page of this thread, on the 2nd page of this thread in Post #15 Good luck with your problem, maybe someone will live up to your standards in order to help you. Zanderat
Except rmm200 is correct, whether you want to hear it or not. Incorrect installation cause your problem. I have been using Vortex since the first beta way back when. What you describe happening simply cannot happen unless user error is involved. For the record, my Vortex is installed in C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex and my mod download files are stored in E:\Vortex Downloads. My staging folder is in C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Roaming\Vortex,
Pickysaurus
The entire Vortex folder in Program Files is removed when the app updates, which is why you should never put anything important in there.
BeowulfSchmidt
Um, the default installation folder for Vortex is a sub folder of â\Program Filesâ, so Iâm not sure why installing there would be an issue. Mine is âC:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortexâ. When I first installed the app, I chose the default installation folder, against my preference, because of warnings about alleged issues with installing it elsewhere. I havenât had a problem yet. rmm200
Vortex (the program) is a perfectly fine thing to go in Program Files. It is the other pieces that must go elsewhere (Downloads, Mods).I strongly favor something like D:\Vortex for those. Get them off the boot drive completely. In my case, they run to gigabytes.
