WRONG, you can download mods wherever you want with Vortex as well, not even sure why you tried to lie about that.

You can even set the directory just like you can with NMM, not sure why you tried to lie about that too.

Question:

No Way!! For some reason I thought the drive you stored the mods on and the game had to be on the same drive... I stumbled across this looking for an answer to this very question last night. This is great news if I understand this correctly. So, right now I have my game installed on my C: drive, and my mods are being stored in the default Vortex is using the default \roaming\vortex\skyrimse\mods path. Are you saying I can now redirect this to say, D:\Vortex\Mods even if my game is on my C: drive?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, and I'm horrible at explaining these things, so I truly appreciate the patience. It's never been something I cared about until now; modders like El Sopa, Pfuscher, Luxor8071 and Gamwich have turned me into a texture junkie after a PC upgrade that enabled me to run nice textures outside of a slideshow... and I figured that 60Gb of textures (and growing) can be freed up on my C: drive for other games.

Feedback:

Also, some feedback on Vortex from a regular ol' user; I'm not a popular mod dev, computer programmer, or "know code." Hell, I can barely explain these processes coherently with the right vernacular. I'm just a regular Joe Nobody... yet, still, somehow, in spite of my ignorance, Vortex works for me like a charm regardless, enabling me to build the game in the exact way I want to build it with the result I expect to get

I installed Vortex a couple weeks after it came out, and it's been a joy to work with ever since. Have I had some issues? Sure have, but no more or less when I used NMM for years or MO for a few months (wasn't for me - it gives you more control, sure, but over complicating what should be simple processes is the trade off). Nothing that wasn't easily resolved with the tools Vortex provides and applying Troubleshooting Mods 101. It's very intuitive, and a two minute dive into the readme answered what I needed to know well enough for what I needed at the time. The short, straight forward videos filled some gaps, too. In other words, treat Vortex like any other mod by reading the directions... and... "It just works."

One correction, though; you mentioned that Vortex makes manual sorting virtually unnecessary, but that isn't 100% accurate. Take for example the Bijin series and, say Marvelous Mirabelle mods. Marvelous Mirabelle's .esp must be loaded after the Bijin series or you get black face bug regardless of what's chosen when resolving a conflict (before or after). Which, by the way, is not a Vortex issue, it's a loose files wins over .BSAs issue.

However... is that easy to resolve in Vortex? Hell yeah it is, with Rules Management, done, takes two seconds. No brain surgery involved, just like NMM, if you're looking for an automated process. Changing a mod's index can also work in certain circumstances as well, just got to be cognizant that for the mod you change the index on, that index is now static and can cause self-imposed issues if it ever NEEDS to change to function properly based on patches and LO.

There is not nor ever will be a MM that is perfect and appeases all, period. But to say that Vortex takes the tinkering (aka "fun") out of modding isn't accurate either. Knowledge of a mod's file structure is still required for advanced modding and tweaking that no MM can automate. I guess it depends on what you want out of modding, and the user will always be the uncommon denominator in the use of these tools.

In short, I really appreciate what the Vortex team has created, super cool tool and look forward to further tweaks, developments, and improvements; it'll only get better.

Thanks to all for your hard work! Thanks for reading, and apologies for the novel if you suffered through the feedback.

Sincerely,

419 mods in Vortex and stable AF.

The only folder that needs to be on the same drive as your games, is the MOD STAGING Folder.

You can set your Mod Download Folder to any drive, and you can install Vortex to any drive you want.

You are more than correct about Vortex, I have used NMM for years, without any difficult, As usual without proofing this program NMM is scrapped ,. i have made several attempts to understand this vortex program. ( Retired electronic tech.here) I have become very boring because vortex has taken control of the games I like. This is one of my joys of life that has been reined. it is apparent that the majority of mods users and creators are disappointed with Vortex. It needs to be scrapped!! U want a better explanation just ask I can provide you with several.

There is only one mod author ( as far as I know ) who is saying not to use Vortex if you want technical assistance with his mod and that mod author is for Fallout4 game. I have not found out any other mod author saying anything wrong about this program and if there were 10, that is nothing in compare to hundreds of moders not just creating new mods but updating their existence ones.

You probably retired from NASA as an electronic expert and I could not even finish my bachelor degree but I have not had any problem with Vortex. You had all the procedures and videos at your disposal and I only had 2 from Gopher ( the very first two and no written procedures at all ) and I was able to learn Vortex. You are asking to scrap Vortex ( I am pretty sure that the mod author from Scrap Everything will not include to scrap Vortex ) and I am saying that Vortex is so easy that probably its simplicity is making everybody confused.

As other folk asked you already, I would like to know what better ideas about Vortex do you have that can make this program to really work since for you it is broken. Hey, by all means shoot and probably you replace Tannin ( the creator of MO2 and Vortex ) as a coder, scrap Vortex and create a new one that really works. Be my guest !!!

Keep in mind too: happy users don't spend their time posting here. They are off playing games.

All we get here are the squeaky wheels - and a few of us who try to help.
