Any particular reason you are building a new machine, with hardware that is several generations old? Also, Your MOBO states it supports 6th gen intel processors, I suspect the 4th gen you have on your list there won't work.

Laptop? Really not much you can do hardware-wise. You have a fair load list there, but, I am not really seeing any one thing you could lose, to increase framerate. It's more a cumulative problem, than anything else. Might take a look at background processes, and see if you have things loading that you don't really need. (and some laptop manufacturers are FAMOUS for loading startup with all sorts of useless stuff.....)

In all reality, there would be very little of anything left. Most man-made structures, regardless of construction method, if not maintained, would be gone. Most of downtown boston would be a vegetation covered hill. Some of the bomb craters would likely still be 'hot', but, for the most part, radiation just wouldn't be that much of an issue.

I saw an article on Yahoo today, about the press treatment of Donald.... 90% negative, with a fair few stories being outright false. That said, if folks are offended by political ads....... they must spend an awful lot of time being offended, either that, or they don't watch television, listen to the radio, or much else, for that matter......

dude they are using google capptcha to prevent from login. its not good community. they should remove it. They use captcha to reduce spammers, and it works. It IS a good site.

Congrats on making it this far. :) I hear ya on that one......

Gaming Hardware 2019 forward
HeyYou replied to FlyIgnite's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Video cards have advanced more than processors at this point, and, depending on which games you play, determines which part is more important. That said, I am still running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black processor, with a GTX 1060 6gb vid card. Runs the games I want to play rather well, for the age of the processor. I have upgraded the vid card a couple times though. That said, I am looking at doing a new build, and going with an i7 8700K, and GTX 1080, with as much ram on it as I can find. I suspect that will last me another 10 years. :D -
Welcome to Nexus. :) Check out the skyrim se section here, it's in the "Nexus Site Forums" section. There is a forum specifically for the construction set, for any questions you may have. There are also various tutorials available out there on the net, to get you started working with the CS. We have some really good tutorials for Oldrim over at TESA (link in my sig), but, there are some differences between the two games. Not sure just how significant those differences are though. (I haven't looked at the SE CS.)

If you have the same issue, with multiple browsers, it's an O/S problem. Could be malware, could just be windows having issues.

Windows 7 support ending in Jan 2020
HeyYou replied to dubiousintent's topic in Hardware and software discussion
When I installed 7 on a newer machine, there was an option in bios for win 7 USB support, of course, I had to update the bios for it to be there...... -

What Operating system? What browser? Is your browser up to date? What extensions do you have installed on your browser?
-
That it would. :) I could see it going into just about any open-world game, did you have a specific game in mind?
-
Welcome. :) NMM isn't that bad to figure out, and there are even forums here to help you along the way. It isn't officially supported by Nexus anymore, but, there are still folks working on development. I use it, and I like it.

Maybe a third party app? Joy2Key, or something similar?
-
If there is a version requirement, it should be in the description of the mod. But, if you have the latest/greatest version of the game, that becomes a non-issue. Should also find install instructions in the description page, or the readme found in the archive of the mod. Another option would be to simply use Vortex, or Nexus Mod Manager to install them. Makes life easier. There are a LOT of good follower mods out there in the world. :D

IS there a way to get range data displayed in the scope overlay?? Thanks, I'll have a look. :D Edit: Yeah, that was intriguing. When I had a casual glance at various weapons, they were pretty much all min/max range value of 256. Max range was modified by barrel length, and possibly some other factors. (maybe receivers? Don't remember) I didn't find anything that modified min range. It is my understanding that NPC's also use this data for how close they get before they start firing...... though I have had supermutants using shotguns at rather long ranges..... (beyond effective range for a shotgun) but, when it is the only weapon you have...... you use what you got. :D Having a collection of data with target range, and actual damage done would be kinda cool, but, that would also be modified by the targets damage resistance...... (is that a value that could be picked up as well?) I am still not really clear on just how damage resistance works...... I understood it to mean that weapons that do less damage than your DR, wouldn't do ANY damage, but, that is definitely not the case. Is there any good information out there on how that all works?
-
Yeah, I found that. :) Interesting reading. I run uGrids at 7, so, bumping projectile range to 15000 should be adequate to the task. I have done some testing with that value, and so far, haven't found anything I can't hit. (but, maybe not kill on first shot.....) In the videos, I note that you actually had text displaying on the scope overlay, how did you manage that? Are those debug messages? Currently, I have a script written by DieFeM, that will show range to target, in game units. He uses the 'detect life' effect to accomplish this, works pretty reliably, even at extreme range. (14000+) There were some targets that wouldn't register though, not entirely sure why...... I don't know if there was some obstruction that interfered with it, or what. Usually, changing site angle (moving to a different position) would make it work, however, there were a couple, (out of many) that I simply couldn't convince to register, no matter what I did. My end goal here, was to figure out why some targets I simply couldn't hit, even though I had clear line of site, and they weren't moving. No correction on my part would let me hit them. The projectile range is what was biting me. (and I probably seriously over-thought the problem....) Discovering that 10K was my absolute limit was enlightening. So, adjusting range on certain types of projectile will pretty much solve the issue I was looking to correct. (If I have a rifle using .50BMG ammo, with good accuracy, I should be able to hit anything I can see. It was frustrating not being able to. :) ) It is my understanding, from what I have read in various places, that the 'correction factor' for 'out of range' shots, is pretty much .5. So, if you are shooting at a target beyond weapon range, you do half damage. There is quite likely a way to make that more of a curve, but, that would be well beyond my capabilities. :)

Yeah, something like "Voice actors needed", and which game, in the title, may get you a bit more action, but, voice actors seem to be few, and far between in any event.

New 4K Monitor 2: The Dual Monitor Setup
HeyYou replied to RobinHood2005's topic in Hardware and software discussion
For that kind of thing, you are going to have to poke and hope. TELL windows what monitors you have. There has to be .inf files out there on the net for them somewhere....... Maybe that will improve their attitude. -
Windows 7 support ending in Jan 2020
HeyYou replied to dubiousintent's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I ran windows XP up until around 2014-2015, with no anti-malware app at all. Only reason I upgraded to 7 was because the various browsers stopped supporting XP. I was NOT going to install Vista. Not even at gunpoint. So, end of support really doesn't bother me overmuch. Now, if you upgrade to 7th gen intel hardware, or, equivalent generation AMD hardware, you are pretty much forced to run win 10, as there is no driver support for earlier operating systems. That said, win 10 is MUCH easier to install, and there are various power shell scripts available to 'reclaim windows 10', and turn off most of the telemetry features. (run once, and you are done.) You still have to deal with forced updates, including drivers, and MS installing various stupid crap on your machine, without so much as a 'by your leave'. What possessed MS to think that was a good idea is beyond me. (probably because someone is paying them to do it..... even though 99% of the games are free in any event.) I suspect though, that if you tell Windows you are on a metered connection, (even though you likely are not....) you would be able to avoid most of the stupid stuff, and possibly even drivers.... though I am not 100% sure on that. Now, there ARE third-party programs you can get, that will give you more control over updates...... to the point you can turn them off completely, but, they are third-party apps.... so, not sure how trust-worthy some of them are. You won't really need another anti-malware app either. Defender, while not 'the best', does the job. At least as well as any of the other free a/v apps do. Even some of the paid for a/v's. Given that third-party a/v can interfere with windows updates, to the point of bricking your machine....... I actually recommend that folks just use defender. (I do PC repair for a living.....) Besides, a decent browser, with a good ad-blocker, and you don't even really need defender. Its more about your surfing habits, than anything else. If you don't go to the 'high risk' sites, you are pretty much good to go. (I haven't ran an a/v on my personal machine for years, but, I am the only person that uses it too......) In any event, win 10 pro is a decent O/S, as things win 10 go. It's stable, its quick, and you can configure it to suit your tastes. One feature that I like to turn off is: Fast Start. Under normal circumstances, when you tell win 10 to 'shut down', it stores the current machine state, to include running programs, web pages up on your browser, etc, so, the next time your turn the machine on, it loads that state. Including any problems it was giving you. (like the adware that tells you you have a virus, and if you don't call us RIGHT NOW, the world will end, and you will lose all your data. :) ) Of course, if you restart your machine every now and again, that will purge any transient issues, that a shut down would not. And with SSD's, you don't really notice the minor difference in boot time. Win 10 is pretty quick even when it is starting from scratch. (once installed..... and fully up to date.) Will I switch to 10 before I absolutely HAVE to? Nope. But, I am considering upgrading my machine, so, in that event, I pretty much won't be left a choice, unless I want to go with hardware 3 or 4 generations older....... Ah well. :D -
Ooooo.... Got any links?
