If it's looking for TESV.exe, you downloaded the wrong version of SKSE. If you are playing SSE you need ver. 2.0.4

That is exactly what my problem was, finally figured out. Because I was hitting wrong link, I just started playing SSE over again, was over fo4, so wanted to play something good,,,so I went back to roots. Was updating everything and ran into this problem. All is well now. Thank you

Make sure you remove all the old SKSE including the scripts and start fresh. The Launcher should be started through NMM, or MO2 if you are using them, which means making sure you link any "Play" buttons to the SKSE Launcher. You should not need to click any further play, the SKSE Launcher will start the game.

Is anyone else having a problem with the latest alpha, SKSE64 (2.0.4) - SSE (1.5.3), with occasional crashes when autosaving on bringing up the menu and, albeit less often, quicksaving? It seems to cause the game to hang while the sound still plays and the only way to exit is to kill from task manager? Just wondering if this is a known issue as I can't seem to find any info when I search around for it. Other than this, I have had no significant problems with SKSE64. Well, the save menu is a bit glitchy but it's totally bearable.

I can't even get SKSE64 to launch now. It launched once, I got to the Menu, enabled oldrim mods that required SKSE, as well as SkyUI64, and then it backed itself out to the desktop. Since then, I can't get SKSE64 to even launch the launcher.

I can launch the vanilla launcher directly, but something's keeping SKSE64 from working.

Why you guys even download s*** if you dont even know the common knowledge of SKSE 64...ever since its been out anytime the game updates you have to wait till skse team update skse...really if you cant be bothered to read and research dont use the damn thing.

You're not wrong, but it probably doesn't require such harsh treatment. We both know a lot of users need to be spoon-fed sometimes.

Guys, it's all good

A well kept secret: How to roll back game versions in Steam these days: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=889624474

The following will sound pretty complicated, but it really isn't (Though admittedly, would be better if Steam simply had an in-built function):

First, you have to enable console in the Steam client. You do so by adding '-console' to the your Steam shortcut target... Just go to shortcut properties, find 'Target' and make it look like this: C:\...\Steam\Steam.exe - console. Restart Steam... If you don't have a shortcut, make one...

Then follow the instructions linked:

Both SSE core and SSE exe have been updated, so it is probably wise to download both. However, if you are impatient, you can test if it's sufficient to simply downloading the old .exe (should be quick). If SKSE won't accept the old exe, I have posted my solution to that in the comment section at the linked site. Look for safariBehn...

Don't use any brackets on the console command, not even these [ ] for the manifest ID, just use plain numbers.

Thank you so much!! I had completely forgotten to tell Skrym SE to not update unless launched from steam. I was playing happily away this morning and closed the game to go to an appointment. I came back to disappointment. Since I'm laid up right now with a bum knee (no, I did not take an arrow to it) this was my main source of entertainment. I followed the instructions, and voila! I have manifests downloading.

Again, thank you.
