Managed Games gone missing

I thought I would give Vortex a try from NMM and luckily I didnt jump in with both feet and change all my games over to vortex, I just tried Fallout4.

I read the tutorials and got all my fallout mods transferred from NMM to Vortex, enabling the mods is when problems started. i got numerous conflict warnings that never showed up in NMM and had to disable them again, going though one at a time. the mod load order was totally different from NMM (doesnt the transfer read the load order from NMM?) and i closed out and thought I would try another day.

As I followed the tutorial and had purged fallout from from NMM and cant just go back but now I cant even use Vortex either as when I started it up today it shows zero managed games! Its as thou iv never used it. Im logged in with my same account as before yet its as thou I never used it for fallout4. when I tell it to manage fallout4 again it now says no mods are found and it asks me for a deployment method again but will not accept the mods directory that it originally transferred all the mods into as it says it needs an empty directory, again.

Given Iv spend the best part of a day transferring fallout4 mods only to find its forgotten it all I dont think its worth risking doing again

Just closed it, then started it next day. no changing of directories, no deleting. only thing i can think of i did between then was. steam updated and restarted (dont see how that would do anything to vortex) and I opened NMM for skyrim (not fallout4). my laptop hasnt even been restarted since having vortex, so iv no idea why it should suddenly loose a days work sorting plugins for fallout4. The mods are all still there in the folder it created but I cant deploy them in vortex.

EDIT: even more bizarre I looked in plugins and it shows the ones I had enabled so far but nothing under mods, showing "You dont have any installed mods" yet in settings the path D:\Games\VORTEX\Fallout4 I can see all the mods

Vortex sorts your load order the way it SHOULD be.

All of the conflict messages were letting you know that your load order in NMM was faulty and had a lot of conflicts in it.

NMM doesn't notify you of conflicts of any kind, so Vortex was letting you know that your mods, and your load order in NMM were in conflict.

Have you used the "IMPORT FROM" button in the toolbar to import your mods or were you copying them over by hand, you weren't clear on that part, because I use3d Vortex to import my NMM setup for SSE and it imported the plugins and the mods to new folders

"Vortex sorts your load order the way it SHOULD be."

Vortex uses LOOT, LOOT is what id sorted fallout mods with in NMM and it had no conflicts/errors when it was on NMM

"Have you used the "IMPORT FROM" button in the toolbar to import your mods""

Yes, as I said i followed the tutorial to the letter, (wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Migrating_to_Vortex_from_another_Mod_Manager ) including the purging in NMM so i couldnt go back (NOT recommended!)

It was all ported over and showing the mods thou I had most disabled, but they were showing. now its shows none from closing and reopening vortex a day later.

other faults iv found: Hardlink deployment in settings, I set that to a new folder on the same drive of fallout {D:\Games\VORTEX\Fallout4) when i ported over and it that worked originally, now when i restart vortex it shows as: {USERDATA}\{GAME}\mods with the link under as: C:\ProgramData\vortex\fallout4\mods. when i change it back it then says the dumb thing of "no deployment method available" and that I need to pick an empty folder, AGAIN. If i close vortex and reopen it then changes back to C:\ProgramData\vortex\fallout4\mods / {USERDATA}\{GAME}\mods.

So something is royally borked when it wont save the path it originally ported the mods into.

EDIT: I dug around in vortex folder and found a log, if that gives any clues: (had to delete some of it as it was over 256K by 8k)

Well, Im not gonna waste any more time on it. Will just have to reinstall all the mods again back on NMM. The fact that your setup in Vortex can just vanish like that makes it feel a bit flaky and I dont trust it. NMM is slow and clunky but works well enough for now, maybe once Vortex has ironed out its flaws I may try again.

No issues here. "Vortex uses LOOT, LOOT is what id sorted fallout mods with in NMM and it had no conflicts/errors when it was on NMM" NMM doesn't report errors. Vortex uses the latest LOOT build. If you ran that externally, it would give exactly the same results as internal to Vortex LOOT.

Well it didnt. The load order on loot from NMM is different on vortex, fact. semantics, yes, NMM doesnt show errors, I assumed it was a given to anyone using loot and nmm that I meant running loot externally from nmm produced no in game errors in my fallout4 mod load order (there, i hope I didnt skip anything this time that may be picked up on that doesnt relate to the issue and just waste everyones time}

Anyway, I realy glad you have no issues, thats realy helpful. but as i said, I lost my profile/game settings, mod setup, whatever you want to call it and that doesnt fill me with enough confidence to use vortex and maybe others may have a similar issue and want to try resolve it. OR perhaps they will just get replies saying, well i havnt got that problem.

The load order is academic anyway as it wont show any order as Iv detailed above coz it thinks i have no mods now.
