Vortex Terminology - Deploy/Purge

I wonder if 'Install' implies to some people that they are good to go, that's usually how it is with software. Earlier the word 'unpack' was suggested, perhaps that might not unconciously suggest to new users that they are done.

If there is to be a Vortex2.0 will the UI change? Because perhaps while a mod is unpacking/installing there could be a larger banner saying that enableing is needed, and when enabling, a banner saying deploying is needed if autodeploying is turned off. An in your face banner that will make people go looking for the hidden option to turn it off:) Ooh ooh, a wav file playing an 'awooga!' siren!

But seriously, the way Vortex works requires that users learn a bit about how the mods for their game work. Is there a first run, click through type of tutorial that can be presented to new users?

Deploy is a cromulent word but I have always found the message that deploying is necessary that shows as soon as I purge to be potentially confusing, as that message appears after other actions; perhaps some indication that the game is in a 'purged' state instead? Otherwise a new user might think that deploying after a purge is in fact part of the purge process - if the program is saying it is necessary?

Well a detailed manual would be great except you know as well as i do that hardly anyone will read it.

You shouldnt need to wade through a manual or watch a video to use a mod manager. It should be simple to use and not introduce confusing and unnecessary terminology.

I'm tired of that excuse of "I shouldn't have to...."

(Besides you don't even use Vortex.)

But, Yes, you should have to RTFM on ANY Software you use.

NMM didn't need a manual because it didn't DO anything, it was a gloried File Downloader, that's it.

No brains required.

Mod managers with more advanced features like MO2, or Vortex, requires a bit of effort on the user's part.

I don't see anybody complaining about how they "shouldn't have to" learn how to use the MetaTags in LOOT.

MO2 isn't exactly "simple to use, and introduces unnecessary terminology", like the examples you gave for MO2.

I'm not a huge fans of manuals myself. Keep in mind that a large number of users are not native english speakers.

Any larger chunk of text we write we have to assume that it's not accessible for half the community. "RTFM" basically excludes everyone from foreign countries who's too young or too old to have received good english education or where english isn't the second language you learn at all.

That is my personal stance on that, I know it's a problem people from the US or UK have trouble empathizing with - no offense.

Imho, as far as possible stuff should explain itself with as few words as possible, manuals or help texts should be considered "Plan B", when we really can't avoid a lengthier explanation.

Deploy & Purge however are topics where I'm having trouble seeing how we could simplify it without losing functionality or making it utterly unusable for some games.
