We've partnered up with WeThePlayers.com - a new gaming site created by former Nexus Mods staff-er BlindJudge - to offer you the chance to win one of 6x Nintendo Switch consoles or 30x $50 Steam gift cards by creating an account and reviewing a game! Full details from the man himself below...

It has been a while since I've posted on Nexus Mods and I feel privileged to be invited back to tell you about a project of mine. Those who have scrolled these pages pre-2017 may remember me as the previous Director Of Content at Nexus Mods (BlindJudge). A few highlights of mine were; heading up the redesign of the website, interviewing Mod Authors for the Sunday Discussion and hosting a few AMA's with people like Elianora and the owner of Nexus Mods, Robin Scott.

Since then, I have been busy working to create a new grassroots community-based video game hub and have kept in regular contact with the Nexus Mods team for feedback. The site has been in development for the last two years and I'm pleased to (finally!) say that it is ready for people to try out. Robin has been supporting me and my venture from the start as a Director in an advisory role, having built Nexus Mods up from nothing to what it is today he knows how to build a community, I am grateful that I can always rely on his advice (and sarcasm).

Our site is 'We The Players' and provides gamers with a platform where they can search, rate and review titles that they have played -be it the latest AAA release or a game from the 1980s. Players can create collections of games for any reason they can think of and upload screenshots and videos of their gameplay. We want to be the site that gamers visit to find their next game, read reviews from the gaming community or to showcase their gaming lives through collections and media.

It's only the very beginning for us, with this release being our BETA. We are adding new features to the site regularly. We want to hear from you, the people that love gaming, and so we are open to feedback and ideas on what to develop in the future.

We would love for you all to be a part of our journey, and so would like to extend an invitation to sign up and become a founding member of the site.

As an incentive, each month for the next six months, we’re going to be giving away a Nintendo Switch Lite for our favourite review, and an additional 5 x $50 Steam Vouchers to a review by Nexus Mods user (selected at random).

To put your name in the hat for these prizes, you need to add a link to your Nexus Mods account in the services section of your We The Players profile.

Then, for a chance to win one of the Steam Vouchers you simply need to submit at least one review on We The Players?. That is you entered from that point onwards.  Each month we will be taking a read of all the reviews and collections that are created and will be giving away a Nintendo Switch Lite to one that catches our eye. We'll be judging the entries based on total kudos, view count, style and formatting as well as the content itself. A good review doesn't have to be positive, but it does need to be constructive and have substance. Here's an example of a really good review and a great collection to give you an idea of what we're hoping for.

We’ll be contacting the winners each month via private message on Nexus Mods with details of how to claim their prize.

The Community Managers Pickysaurus and BigBizkit already have their profiles set-up, so feel free to go and take a look at them:

As you can imagine, we have two main hurdles at the moment that you could help us with.

  • Getting community content - Whether this is simply rating games that you have played, past and present, or writing reviews and creating collections.
  • Awareness of the website: Spreading the word to gaming friends, and sharing your content on social media and Reddit.com would really help us out in this regard.

You can find us on Facebook and Twitter where we post updates, giveaways and showcase users of the site. We also have a new Discord, where we discuss gaming in general and host giveaways.

So what have we got in the works going forwards? Well, we’re working hard on sorting out our API for external use, creating pages for all the Developers and Publishers so that all the games they have released are easily accessible, and adding achievements and leaderboards into the site. We’re also looking at the various API’s for game platforms so that your game library can be imported into the site for you, making it easy to rate and review titles you own and create interesting collections.

These last two years have been quite the slog, but we truly hope you like the site. Big thanks to Robin and the Nexus Mods team for all their hard work and help on WeThePlayers.com, and thank you for reading this post. We look forward to welcoming you onto the site.

How to Enter

As a quick recap, to enter the event you need to do the following:

  • Create a free account at WeThePlayers.com?
  • Hover over your avatar in the top right and select "Edit Profile".
  • Click on the "Services" tab.
  • Scroll down to the "Nexus Mods Profile" option and paste the full link to your profile (e.g. https://www.nexusmod.../users/31179975)
  • Don't forget to click "Save"!
Once that's done, each time you leave a review for a game you'll be entered into the prize draw. You can tell the world how much you love to mod Skyrim, how Stardew Valley changed your life or how Blade & Sorcery is the best VR game ever.

Very sleek site! I've made my profile and posted 2 reviews. I'll be keeping an eye open. It'll be nice to have the voices of real players, with community accountability (so we know who the "shills" and "fanboys" are...).

So far the only annoying thing is that the non-paid version seems a bit too strict. I wanted to upload a screenshot and it was difficult to find a small enough file size. I understand the need for a tier system, and I know you have bills to pay... But it seems to me that screenshots should be a pretty basic, open-ended feature. Perhaps the non-paying visitors can upload any size they want, but your size resizes them to save server space? Then the paid users can have "unadulterated" screenshots.

That restriction greatly discourages me from uploading my screens... not so much because of quality or whatever, but because I simply don't want to filter through which ones will be approved or not. Too much hassle.

Anyways, looks very nice, I've favorited that page!

Just a side note, I noticed a couple minor little things...

- The notification bell keeps showing me the same notifications as new. It gets annoying seeing the same 14 notifications every time I refresh or come back. Something like "mark as read" would be handy.

- Every time I refresh my browser on my review, it counts that as a "view"... Perhaps you could track the IP address or something to not count non-unique views or something? Not sure if that is even possible. Like I said, very minor little thing.

Thanks for the kind words Dahveed. Nice review on Shadow of the Tomb Raider by the way.

I was chatting to Robin in regards to the various 'tiers' etc. and he is very much in the open up everything camp, which I totally get. I'm going to chat with the devs and see if we can remove the restriction on the screenshots as we'd love to have more screenshots on the site.

I've taken note of the annoyances and will feed those back too. Any other suggestions that you have, either about the site now, or ideas for enhancements, then please feel free to either PM me or post them up here. I'll read every one.

Yeah, kind of, I guess.
To be entered for the Steam vouchers, you can simply post up a small review on a game that you like, love or loathe, and that is you entered for the duration of the giveaway. Reviews don't have to be long drawn out pieces, as it's simply telling other gamers your opinion on a title.

Thanks for the compliments! And nice review, MHW is a game that I never really thought about as it seemed like constant boss battles?! I tried Dauntless as apparently that's the 'free' equivalent?

The site is there for exactly the reason you've mentioned, as well as helping other gamers decide what their next game will be. We hope it will become a valuable resource for gamers, both in terms of looking up information and also seeing other gamers opinions on titles.
