I just came across a ban for:

Reason: None

And with no further explanation. This is the second time I have seen one of these. Are these people really banned for no reason, or were they asking to get their account deleted?

I do wonder if the system behind the site bot glitches sometimes -- either on its own or from moderator error.

Can you send me the link? I suspect something goofed up. 

 

I have looked into this. It's actually just a quirk of the system. These accounts were spammers these bans aren't meant to even generate a thread.

Thanks, that makes sense. I had been wondering if people closing their account would get pseudo-banned.

IIRC, that kinda used to happen, with people requesting it in threads in the old Closed Accounts forum.  But they've since changed the process.

That's up there with "If you ban me I'll just create another account", unaware that it takes a lot longer to create a new account than it does for that new account to be banned.

But it's so tiresome if you're running a forum and constantly dealing with this stuff. It's OK if it can be automated but otherwise you're there, working towards repetitive strain injury.... And it's sooooooo boring. I'm not sure if they're aiming for some kind of weird version of the Darwin Awards or what but some people appear to enjoy being banned... maybe it's the only way anyone takes any notice of them...

I'm sure that's true about some of them. They're masochistic, attention seekers. Kind of like that kid in third grade who used to eat boogers for quarters because he thought it would make him cool.
