  1. There is a bill working its way thru the process that would make it illegal for states to pass their own net neutrality laws.

Right, a politician caving to business interests is a new development. Right. Trump isn't the first president to sell us down the river, nor will he be the last. This is just business as usual in washington dc. Unfortunately.

I know exactly what will happen. Nothing. The american people will lay down and take it, just like they have for the last several decades. If you are expecting 'the people' to actually rise up, and DO something, you are going to be sadly disappointed. Look at the last couple decades, and please note, that each and every time congress/the president has done things the people didn't like, they simply passed it off as 'necessary for the security of the state', and that was pretty much the end of it. The patriot act, and its subsequent continuation after it was set to expire being a prime example.

I think you overestimate the american people. Consider: this isn't a new situation, it has been going on for decades, yet we still put the same people that raped us back in office, knowing they will do it again. That doesn't lend much confidence.

I think the government would be highly offended if you started regularly disobeying laws, even if they had been passed since '71. While you may feel they are not legit, the majority still seems to think they are, and the powers-that-be are going to enforce them, and go along with court decisions regarding violating them. (unless you are a politician, or have a fat pile of cash, then the law just doesn't really apply to you.) As for your last point, I don't expect the american people to take 'proper responsibility' for anything any more. Considering that they have been teaching their kids that no one is responsible for their own actions for the last couple decades..... Nope. The only way things are going to change, is if some OUTSIDE influence prompts it. Be that war, cutting off any further loans to the US govt, or a major sell-off of US treasury bonds owned by various governments, in hopes of getting at least some value for them.

Trouble is, it appears the 'average american' already HAS passed judgement on our political system, and most seem to accept it. We continue to put the same KNOWN crooks into office each and every election. It should be patently obvious to everyone by now, that our government ISN'T doing what is best for the country as a whole, they are doing what is best for THEMSELVES. This has been going on for quite some time now, and has only gotten worse as the years pass. And what have the american people done to change it? Nothing. We continue on our merry way, allowing our government to stick it to us at every turn. Free trade, massive debt, rampant corruption, little to no oversight, no transparency whatsoever, (as was promised by Obama.... and others....) Our government is in business for itself, and it's major campaign donors. That's it. Whatever puts the most money in their own pockets, RIGHT NOW, regardless of future consequences. Corporations run america, with the politicians as their puppets. Now, do I expect any of that to change? Nope. Sure don't. American have become to fat, dumb, and happy, to do anything about the crooks that are robbing them blind, in plain sight. It can't last. You can only spend so much of other peoples money, not to mention money that doesn't exist.... before folks start questioning your ability to pay it back. We have already seen a bit of this, but, somehow, it got swept under the rug, and things continued without pause. We can't continue on the current path for much longer. When it all finally does come crashing down, it's gonna be ugly. I hope I don't live to see it.
  9. What else is running in the background?
  10. The fun answer would be ”Disneyland!!!”. Truth is my Mother is aging fast, I am very much NOT equipped to be her sole caretaker, and every family member or family friend we have who can help is located twenty minutes from each other down there. Also, this place is boring as hell, has no active geek community, and I’ve yet to make one friend here in over five years. : ( Down there I already know people, and there are a ton of events, meet-ups, and locations to meet potential friends of like interests. But yeah, the cost thing DOES suck. >< Ok, the family thing I most certainly understand. Dissy land though.... no desire to ever go there. Too many people, far too expensive. :D Where could a person live that the cost of living doesn't suck? Some place where I'd be richer than anyone living there? I think that would only last if I stay a couple of weeks and went back to where it costs more to live; so I wouldn't stand out like a truck load of money with the trailer door wide open. Having a park where I could go get on the rides that cost money?! I could get on a spinner board, dive under the sprinkler spray, or roller coast all around the yard until I fall down; dizzy. If I could afford it I would rather go to Disney Planet. I'd rather go there with family too. Aside from the price of gas, cost of living isn't too bad where I am.

If you gave the boot to every public servant (no there is a funny term.......) on those very same moral grounds, it's quite likely you would have very few left. So far as I am concerned, putting 'moral', and 'politician' in the same sentence, is right up there with 'intelligence' and 'military' in the same sentence. Of course, it's not like this is anything new. It's been case for centuries.

  13. Why would you want to move to Southern California? A place that no one can afford to live in?

  15. Common practice is to have all your ram the same speed, from the same manufacturer. Is it 'required'? Nope. Doesn't even have to be the same speed, the mainboard will simply run the ram at the speed of the SLOWEST stick.

    Looks like a re-skinned HALO.
  17. Do not buy a plan with a data cap. I can burn thru 10 gb in a couple days...... in this day and age, it just isn't that hard.
  18. Either that, or look for someplace offering A+ certification training. :D
  19. Several of the really good RTS games turned into MMO's, either that, or they got 'updated' to the point of unrecognizability..... (yeah, I just made that word up.) Some simply disappeared when the companies that made them evaporated. Others were bought up, and shelved. I very much enjoyed Startcraft, that was fun. Warcraft 3 was a blast as well, but, with 4, they changed way too much. (water is no longer an obstacle???? Really?????) and then it went MMO. C&C was a blast, and there are still folks out there modding for it. No idea what happened to my disks though.... I still have Empire Earth installed on my games drive. :D

If the american people haven't done anything about for almost 50 years, what makes you think they are going to start now? No, nothing is going to change until our government actually does collapse. That will happen when they are so far in debt, they run out of other peoples money to spend, and there is no one left stupid enough to lend them more. Then our economy will come to a crashing halt, likely have a profound affect on the rest of the world as well. Dark Ages 2.0?
  21. This is only one more instance of our government doing what is best for the interests of business revenue, not what is best for the average american. Nothing new under the sun, and really shouldn't come as a surprise. ISPs have long wanted the ability to 'favor' one variety of traffic over another. Now they can. The can burn both ends of the candle, and not get burnt by hot wax. They can charge companies (netflex) to favor their traffic, then, turn around and bill their customers for 'preferred' packages, that favor streaming as well. The "big" ISPs already pretty much have a monopoly in many areas, so, if customers there want broadband, they will be forced to pay what the ISP wants to charge. This is one of the reasons rates are so high in the US, as compared to just about everywhere else. I don't really count satellite internet as 'real' broadband.... simply due to unrealistic data caps.

And our government seems to think it is a good idea to have american workers try and compete against that......
  23. An interesting premise. :) If you could arrange so you could only "see" stuff within your perception range, but, that 'stuff' was still loaded in game, like NPC's, that want to shoot you........ that could lend a whole new aspect to the game. :D
