You can PAUSE auto-updates, you cannot turn them off completely. At least, not without additional software. Starting with windows 10, updates can be had from other computers on the same network as well. Most large corporations will have updates stored on a local server, for just such a purpose. Beats waiting on MS servers to hand out updates. Or maybe you haven't noticed that sometimes, updates download rather quickly, and other times, even the Defender database update takes forever. One thing I HAVE NOT seen though, is update interfering with the function of the machine. Unless, of course, it is being choked by the hardware it is running on. If you have an old and slow mechanical HDD, then yeah, updates can slow the machine. Same goes for insufficient ram, or weak proc.

That would REALLY piss me off. Might be enough to make me stop buying their games. After all, it isn't Beth we are supporting any more, it is Microsloth.
-
I think he is more referring to the inability to turn off auto-updates, without some third-party software........ An advent of windows 10. Win 7, you could turn off updates altogether, don't know about 8, I avoided that one like the plague. (If I wanted a tablet operating system, I would have BOUGHT a TABLET.....)

Can't get starfield mods to work through Vortex
HeyYou replied to cnnolet8's topic in Starfield's Discussion
Really? Cool. I may do a reinstall at some point, probably some time after Beth starts supporting mods, and releases the CK...... Right now, I have steam running offline, so the game won't update until I actually WANT to. Of course, that means it doesn't track hours played, etc.... And that strikes me as rather strange too..... Just because steam is offline, why would it stop tracking that? (not that I really want to know.... I likely spend FAR too much time playing. ) -
Can't get starfield mods to work through Vortex
HeyYou replied to cnnolet8's topic in Starfield's Discussion
You need the plugins.txt enabler mod, along with Starfield Script Extender for things to work. I also use the mod that disables the data folder in My Games\Starfield. That's just a stupid idea..... (my games are installed on a separate physical drive....) So, for me, all mods get installed to the Game install directory. Works great. Of course, I also ONLY do manual installs. Vortex doesn't seem to have figured out Starfield yet. Mod Organizer 2 seems to have it dialed in though. -
That capability doesn't exist yet... Unfortunately. I would love to be able to save ship designs......

That's generally how it works. I had a machine at work, that if it was deprived of power, (either unplugging it, or even just switching off the power supply) it would NOT boot. Diag LEDs would whine about CPU and Ram... but, hold the power button down till it shut off, the power it back up again, and it would boot just fine. If you just shut it down, and didn't kill power to it, it would restart just fine...... Nothing I tried would change that behavior.... No clue what that's all about. Had a chat with the customer, explained the situation to her, told her the only "real" fix would be replace the CPU, and mother board.... or, live with the quirk till it died completely. She elected to live with it. Nice machine too...... Overkill for what she wanted to do with it, but, I was always a big fan of overkill. :D

Can you force a reset on the system?
-
That stopped working with either oblivion, or skyrim, don't remember which...... saves got their own file format.
-
Have to decode the save format first..... Way back when, the saves were just another esp file, with a different extension. It was possible to change the extension, and load up your save in the CS....

If you computer is on, yep, it's using power, if it's just idle though, likely not very much. Laptop definitely uses less..... It is not nearly as efficient of a space heater as a gaming computer. If you aren't gaming, then using the laptop, and leaving the gaming rig off, makes good sense. Probably won't be a major difference in your electric bill though.... I shut my machine down if I am not going to be around using it for a few hours.
-
CCR can also run commands when some specific event occurs in-game though....
-
You ain't the only one.
-
Using some other search engine, google, yahoo, etc, and specifying the site to search actually works really well.....
-
I have hundreds of hours in the game, and I think I have seen maybe one CTD in the last three weeks.....
-
The board searches have NEVER really worked all that well.

How do we see which mods that actually are activated?
HeyYou replied to Pellape's topic in Starfield's Discussion
Creatures are leveled to the system they are in as well. You can usually see what level a system is in the Star Map. I would expect that value would override your modded value.... I think the mod is more for spawned enemies at POI's. -
Erm, why on earth would EVERY game Modding forums be dumped into the same forum? Given the number of games here, that is going to make keeping track of mod issues/requests pretty much impossible. What happened to each game having it's own forum for such purposes???
-
I like the idea. That would be way cool.
-
Probably not until after the Construction Set comes out..... But, you can BET there will be a few.

Grab and esp/esm mod that DOES add something to the game you can easily test. See if it loads. -
Did you sign up to beta test the patches??
